MEDIA CAMP

Dive into digital creation and craft impactful YouTube videos with an eco-friendly twist. Utilizing smartphones and video cameras, refine your skills in scripting, filming, editing, graphics and sound production. While also navigating the landscape of responsible social media engagement.

Benefit from the mentorship of acclaimed international filmmakers, enriching your expertise and perspective.

Dates and Times:

July 15-19

July 22 -26

10am -5pm (early drop off available) 

Age 13-17

 

Skills learned:

  • Optimal utilization of iPhone and Android devices for filming

  • Expedited editing techniques for rapid upload to YouTube and other social platforms

  • Graphics and captioning proficiency

  • Audience cultivation strategies

 

Week 1:

  • Assessment of individual skill levels and interests

  • Produce introductory videos and upload

  • Theme development with an emphasis on environmental consciousness, while fostering individual creative exploration

  • Script writing, refinement and collaboration

  • Staying safe online whilst being purpose driven

  • Techniques in lighting and green screen utilization

  • Smartphone filming techniques (or advanced digital camera operation for those with prior experience)

  • Creating a short segment or film 

 

Week 2:

  • Editing in DaVinci Resolve (or Premier Pro for advanced participants)

  • Graphics creation with Canva (or Adobe suite) 

  • Sound editing fundamentals

  • Establishing a YouTube channel and content publishing

TUITION: $900 per week. Scholarships available upon inquiry.

How is it sustainable? We are a nonprofit that is reducing plastic waste in our community and waste reduction is the theme of our camp. We will make impactful movies together and other content that aligns to your interests. Videos edited and uploaded after the camp will count towards volunteer hours for school and help build a showreel for college.

About the Team

Tara de la Garza

Creative Director,

Inventurous

Tara is a visual artist and the Founder and Creative Director of Inventurous. She is a film school graduate and has won an FTI young filmmaker award. She also studied a BA in Fine Art and is an award winning graphic designer.

 

She has run festivals with audiences of 10,000 people and curated art exhibits with artists such as Yoko Ono in New York. She is currently in a resident studio program at Cubberley in Palo Alto, CA

 

De la Garza’s work is in the permanent collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Watson Library, NYC. She has also exhibited extensively throughout the US in museums and galleries such as Mass MOCA, Chicago Art Institute, Cornell University, San Diego Art Institute, Palo Alto Arts Center, Palace of Fine Arts SF, SF Design Week, numerous Spring/Break art fairs and at Context Miami. She is represented by SFA Projects in NYC and Universally Unknown in LA.

Ala Mohseni

Filmmaker, Producer, Video Editor,

Ala's film-making has garnered many awards including: 
The Grand Jury Prize of Urban Int’l Film Festival,
UNESCO Intangible Heritage award,
Best Short Film of Farhang Int'l Short Film Festival,

Best Short Film Award of OXDOX Int'l Film Festival 2009
Best Idea Award of NOOR Int'l Film Festival.

He has a Master of Fine Arts in Film from the California College of the Arts (CCA) in San Francisco.

 

As the co-Founder of Fine Cut studio he has worked with Apple, Stanford University and has produced videos and documentaries for international organizations like the BBC and Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.
